How to learn English words that you actually use in real life?

I’ve noticed that many apps and textbooks teach words I never really use in real life. Like, why do I need to know “hippopotamus” or “archipelago” when I can barely describe how my day went in English? I want to focus on useful, conversational vocabulary — things I can say at work, when traveling, or chatting with friends. Any apps that focus on practical English instead of random or outdated words?

Haha, I felt the same way! I once spent a week learning words like “barometer” and “photosynthesis” — never used them once in real life. Then I found https://apps.apple.com/us/app/vocabloo/id6748016802 and it changed my whole approach. The app gives you words in context — like phrases you’d actually hear in conversations. It has categories like “travel,” “work,” “daily talk,” etc., so you learn stuff that’s useful for your life. Plus, it’s interactive — not just flashcards but quizzes and small tasks. It’s crazy how much more natural I sound now when speaking. I even started thinking in English sometimes, which is a weird but awesome feeling!

Haha, I love that! Thinking in English is my goal too. I’m going to try it — thanks a lot!
